Don’t forget the checklist!
Below is a sample checklist, moving into storage can be a stressful time. By keeping a checklist to hand and ticking off things once they are completed, is the best way to stay on top of things, reducing stress and not having to keep thinking did you remember to do something.
4 WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR MOVE
If you are not using a professional removal company, it’s best to start the packing process. We hear from a lot of our customers that they left it to the last minute and are completely stressed out from the process. Better to start early and be on top of things.
Register yourself and your family at the local doctors, a lot of people forget this. Someone becomes ill and then it hits you. “I haven’t got a doctor”
Have a cancellation date for the milk and newspaper, you don’t want to be paying for the old house and the new.
Do the kids have a new school? Registered?
3 WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR MOVE
Call the utility companies and ask what’s needed for a final bill.
- Disconnected in your current home.
- Connected in your new home.
It can be a stressful time when moving, so imagine how your kids/pets feel, they are just as stressed if not scared. Make arrangements for your kids/pets to be looked after on move day.
Have all personal documents been updated with your new address?
2 WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR MOVE
Eat as much from your house as you can, moving half opened bottles is asking for a spill. Why is it that things normally spill onto something important.
Declutter, there is no point paying a higher removal price for things you do not want or need. Be ruthless!
1 WEEK PRIOR TO YOUR MOVE
Any medication you may need, make sure it’s going to be delivered to your new pharmacy.
Cancel things that you have delivered to your home and pay the final bill.
2 DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR MOVE
Defrost your fridge and freezer. Otherwise water will be dripping inside the removal truck onto your precious things.
The removal guys will probably turn up to pack up the house. What’s taken you 1 month to complete, they will probably complete in a few hours.
THE DAY PRIOR TO YOUR MOVE
If you are moving a long distance, take some cash out. You never know what you might need on the way.
Take final meter readings.
Check the car is all sound and in tip top condition, don’t want to be breaking down and losing the removal truck.
