Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

We hope this FAQ page will be helpful.  These are some of the questions we are most frequently asked about our storage service.

If you didn’t find your answer in our FAQ section, feel free to get in touch here.

General FAQ's

Self storage has been around for quite sometime, although statistics suggest most people have never heard of it. Businesses and individuals can rent space in all different sizes, ranging from the size of a telephone box to a double garage or even the size of a football pitch. These rooms are usually sold in square footage. 25 square feet, 35 square feet, 50 square feet and upwards.

Most things can be stored inside these lockers, but do check the suppliers website for a list of items that are not permitted. To see items that are not permitted please click here to see our terms and conditions.

You arrange to have your items brought to the storage unit and it is usually your responsibility to place the items within the unit, unless you have a professional moving company to do it for you. You can then rent the unit on a short term on long term basis.

SwiftlyStored is a small family run business. We pride ourselves on making sure our customers are 100% happy. We like to go that extra mile to really listen to customers needs. We can then provide the best service at the correct price.

From the first day you sign your license agreement, there will be a seven day minimum period stay. After the minimum period has expired, the time you store with us will be calculated daily. There is no maximum time, you can store as long as you would like.

With a deposit, storage space can be reserved ahead of time to ensure the unit/space you require is accessible on the day you require it. Should you need more space while you are storing with us, you can always upgrade.

Once upgraded, the minimum stay 7 day period would commence again.

We do not keep keys on site for anyone’s storage unit, the keys are kept in a separate location with the director of the company, your room will only be opened with the director present.

It very difficult to give a straight forward answer, as the goods people store with us are all different shapes and sizes. A big percentage of our customers regularly say “I didn’t realise how much stuff we had”

The storage space is calculated on the amount of square footage you are using, there are lots of things to take into account.

  • Can the items be stacked on top of each other?
  • Have your items been professionally packed to save space?
  • Are some of your items just too large to fit?

Contact us here and we can discuss your needs, and work out the best space suitable.

There is no maximum time, but a 1 week minimum period is in place, each time you sign a new license agreement.

Once we have worked out the storage space you need, that will be the fee for your unit. You will need to have insurance to cover the contents in your unit.

Please refer here to our insurance FAQ’s for more information.

There are optional extras you can purchase if you wish, for example packing materials, padlocks and other services we currently offer. Please click here to our shop with all the products available.

We offer discounts for long term storage paid in advance, also there are discounts on some packing materials. Other services we offer also carry discounts. Please contact us here to see what’s on offer!

We’ll invoice you on a 4 weekly basis, payable in advance. However, we only ask for fourteen days notice when you vacate your room and we refund to you any unused storage charges, except if you took our discount for long term storage. This is not refundable.

Payment of a deposit and the first 4 weeks storage costs must be made prior to moving in.

You can move in straight away, subject to having the space you require, and providing you have the correct proof of ID.

2 forms of ID will be needed to successfully purchase your storage space.

  • Photo ID (passport or driving license)
  • Utility bill (within the last 3 months at your current address)

The address on the license or passport must match the utility bill information.

Proof of ID will be completed face to face, never over the phone or internet.

When you first purchase your storage space, there will be a deposit and first 4 weeks storage costs. The same amount will then be taken every 4 weeks by direct debit until termination by either party following our termination guidelines. Please see our termination guidelines here.

The deposit can be paid by cash or debit card or direct transfer. The following months invoices must be paid by direct debit.

All items being stored with SwiftlyStored must have valid insurance in place. It’s like renting a flat, the landlord would take care of the buildings insurance, it would then be your responsibility for the contents insurance. Storage units work in the same way.

You can supply us with your own insurance, our name and address must be added and clearly visible on your personal insurance policy, alternatively, we offer our own insurance should you not want to go through the effort of setting up your own.

Our customers and their goods are very important to us, but sometimes things may happen outside of our control, for example, fire, flood and storms to name a few. Therefore, all storage facilities will require goods to be insured for the duration of your stay.

Unfortunately not, our storage facility for the upmost security does not allow access to the public. In order to retrieve your goods, you would have to make a booking following our termination guidelines. Please see our termination guidelines here.

We can take care of the move for you, that way you will have a dedicated manager to oversea the whole project, from packing the house, removals and then into storage.

This would incur extra packing and removal charges, please contact us here speak to a member of the team for details.

Alternatively, you can have the goods delivered to us yourself.

Our units range from a small locker up to a football pitch, please give us a call to discuss your needs. Most people don’t need a football pitch so we are sure to fit you in.

If you have paid your deposit and you cancel less than 5 days before you have moved in, the minimum 7 day period charge would still apply.

If you took advantage of our long term storage discounts, the remainder of the storage term after the 7 day minimum period would be refunded to you, but the minimum 7 day period charge would still apply at our full rate.

If you wish to cancel your storage with us after you have moved your items in, you would need to follow our termination guidelines. Please see our termination guidelines here.

Unfortunately not, there are many things that are not suitable for storage. Please click here to see our full list.

If you are not sure about an item, please ask a member of the team for advice.

Insurance FAQ's

All items being stored with SwiftlyStored must have valid insurance in place. It’s like renting a flat, the landlord would take care of the buildings insurance, it would then be your responsibility for the contents insurance. Storage units work in the same way.

You can supply us with your own insurance, alternatively, we offer our own insurance should you not want to go through the effort of setting up your own.

Our customers and their goods are very important to us, but sometimes things may happen outside of our control, for example, fire, flood and storms to name a few. Therefore, all storage facilities will require goods to be insured for the duration of your stay.

If you choose to use your own insurance, it must have the same high level of cover in place as SwiftlyStored’s insurance policy.

When signing the contract for the rental of your storage space, you will need to supply us with;

  • Insurance policy specifying the amount insured.
  • The amount insured must cover the total value of the goods, on an old for new basis.
  • The perils listed must be the same or higher as SwiftlyStored’s insurance policy
  • Full details of insurer/broker
  • Full cover note, listing the date period of the policy
  • SwiftlyStored’s full address on the insurance document

These documents will be kept on file along with your rental agreement. We will require a new document as each year elapses.

If at the time of signing your rental agreement, you are not able to provide full insurance details along with proof of ID and address, we will not be able to store your items unless SwiftlyStored’s insurance option is taken.

Unfortunately SwiftlyStored are not able to give insurance advice or recommend other insurance companies. Our staff are not trained on insurance policies, so they would not be able to give you correct information for your needs.

All items must be insured to the full new replacement value.

It is very important to correctly value your items, should the worst happen and a claim is put forward. A recent study completed by Admiral suggested a high volume of people underestimated their goods.

To work out the value of your items, go from room to room and write down everything you will be putting into storage, then put a value next to the item of what it would cost to buy new.

Total up everything, and this is the amount of insurance you will need whilst in storage.

Once you have valued all of your items, we will be able to give you quote. All policies will vary depending on the total value amount.

Once your goods are stored with us, the safety of them is of the upmost importance to us. We do not allow access to the public into our storage facility. Even if you (the owner) wish to access your goods, an appointment with ID and photo recognition will be needed. The premises also have CCTV 24 hours a day.

Either You or We may terminate This Agreement;

22.1. By giving not less than 14 days written notice to the other ending on any date and termination will take effect from that date which shall be the Termination Date.

Please take a look here at our full terms & conditions.

After your 14 day written notice has been received, we would require you to produce your driving licence as photo ID

A 3rd party on your behalf will not be able to gain access to your goods unless confirmed in writing by yourself at time of booking.

These procedures are in place for the security of your goods, also for any new members of the SwiftlyStored team that may not have met you previously. This way the strict verification standard can be maintained.

If you require someone else to access your goods, the below verification process would apply.

  • An email from the main account holder granting access with the appointed persons full name and address.
